From a young age art has always been a therapeutic practice in my own life. My grandmother was an artist and would often have me sit and draw with her as a child. My work has the intent to entice the viewer while challenging them to confront conditioned or personal beliefs. This approach often receives mixed reactions. For some, it may cause a level of uncomfort depending on personal interpretations or resonate with the viewer. I push to visually connect with others through monochromatic schemes, surrealism, and whimsical subject matter. I do not hold myself to specific subject matter. If I can present a concept that holds meaning to me while also provoking a societal concern to bond with the masses then I feel I have successfully created a piece. My decisions are largely based upon balance, emotion, depth, and a desire to connect to my creations.
My body of work reflects my research most directly through process and knowledge accumulated outside of the art world. I have a specific interest dabbling in recreating famous works conceptually as well as incorporating my background in Education and Psychology. I have learned to enjoy being playful while using unconventional materials to add texture or additional layers of collage. Artists like Salvador Dali, Sam Dunson, and Guerilla girls have heavily influenced my craft through their unique style and approach or devotion in fighting global and societal issues. Much like these artists, my work also sheds light on social constructs through fun, visually contradicting pieces. In doing so, my intention lies in connecting with more than one type of audience. I believe my work aids in Art towards change while also provoking greater self-awareness which is one of the only things we as individuals can do to help maintain and restore humanity.
